  • AKA Literary Joins the 2025 Native Writing Intensive

Texican Court 501 West Las Colinas Blvd, Irving, TX, United States

Hosted by We Need Diverse Books and sponsored in part by Heartdrum/HarperChildren’s, the Native Children’s and YA Writing Intensive is a four-day, in-person program dedicated to supporting and amplifying the voices of Native and First Nations writers. Held June 12–15, 2025, at the Texican Court in Irving, Texas, the Intensive offers a dynamic mix of craft workshops, one-on-one manuscript critiques, career consultations, and community-building sessions.

The event brings together a powerful faculty of Native authors, publishing professionals, and literary agents to guide emerging and established Indigenous writers through every stage of the publishing process. Participants engage in group discussions, public readings, and panels that foster reflection, storytelling, and celebration.

This year’s lineup includes celebrated author Byron Graves (Rez Ball), writer and mentor Gayleen Rabakukk, and literary agent Terrie Wolf, all of whom bring a wealth of experience and inspiration to the weekend. Through mentorship, collaboration, and a shared commitment to elevating Native stories, the Intensive continues to shape the future of children’s and YA publishing—one voice at a time.
