This in-person event will be held June 12–15\, 2025\, at The Texican Court in Irving\, Texas. \nThis annual Intensive is a unique opportunity for Indigenous authors and author-illustrators to connect\, develop their manuscripts\, and build lasting careers in children’s and young adult publishing. \n\n🔥 Faculty Spotlight: Byron Graves\nByron Graves (Ojibwe)\, author of the critically acclaimed Rez Ball\, returns to the Native Writing Intensive as a faculty member. As part of the program’s administrative team\, she helps orchestrate the entire weekend\, ensuring every session runs smoothly and every participant feels supported. \nAn MFA graduate in Writing for Children & Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts\, Gayleen also holds a journalism degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Cynsations\, a leading digital magazine covering children’s and YA literature.  \nBeyond her editorial work\, Gayleen teaches creative-writing workshops for the Austin Public Library Foundation and is an active member of SCBWI’s Austin chapter\, bringing deep craft knowledge and a community-first mindset to every project she touches. \nAt the Native Writing Intensive\, Gayleen handles key logistics\, moderates sessions\, and offers support and encouragement with practical publishing advice.
